ROBERT PERRY
Robert Perry has designed lighting for over 20 years with projects ranging from Off-Broadway, dance and opera in addition to many regional theatres across the country, including the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, LaJolla Playhouse in San Diego, the Intiman Theatre in Seattle, and the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington DC. Throughout his career he has won numerous lighting design awards for shows which he designed both Off-Broadway and regionally.
Highlights of his career include designing the lighting for the World Premieres of “Drowning Crow” at the Goodman Theatre and “Crowns” at the McCarter. In addition, Robert is credited with designing the lighting for the New York Premieres of “Reefer Madness” at the Variety Arts Theatre and David Mamet’s “Boston Marriage” at New York’s Joseph Papp Public Theater.
Robert's vast repertoire of famed directors he has designed for include Joseph Chaikin, Michael Kahn, Seret Scott, Richard Hamburger, Regina Taylor, Shep Sobel, Pam MacKinnon, Des McAnuff and Kate Whoriskey to name a few. Favorite choreographers include Paula Abdul for "Reefer Madness" and Ronald K. Brown for "Crowns" and "Evidence".
In the industrial lighting world Robert has designed lighting for two of New York City's best known design firms: Scharff-Weisberg, Inc. and Design One Corporation.
In addition to his theatrical lighting career Robert is also a renowned lighting sculptor. In the spring of 2002 he incorporated the skills that he learned in the theatrical world and formed the sculpture company “Structures of Light” in the Greenwich Village section of New York City. His sculptural lights have been displayed in galleries around the country and have won numerous awards at countless juried art shows. On the national level he has been featured on HGTV’s “That’s Clever!” and been highlighted in the Miami Herald’s “Profiles in Design” as well as the Boston Globe.
Robert currently serves on the faculty at the University of Miami’s Department of Theatre Arts as an Assistant Professor of Lighting Design.
He holds an MFA Degree from the Yale School of Drama and a
